The Central Laboratory of Optical Storage and Processing of Information to the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (CLOSPI-BAS) is the only specialized research laboratory in the field of holography, parallel optical recording and information processing in Bulgaria. The staff of the Laboratory comprises forty-six specialists in physics, chemistry, electronics and measurement techniques as well as nine Ph.D. students. The Laboratory has original technologies for production of light-sensitive materials for volume reflection holograms and holographic optical elements; techniques and instrumentation for polarimetric measurement and polarization recording, for interferometric and refractometric investigations, for recording and digital processing of two-dimensional images and coherent optical systems for parallel information processing.

The CLOSPI-BAS has four main divisions:

  • Optico-Electronic Processing of Information
  • Holographic and Opto-Electronic Investigations
  • Optical Recording of Information
  • Materials for Optical Recording

CLOSPI has an impressive record of disseminating its results, usually in prestigious journals and proceedings, 3 monographies and 100 author’s certificates and patents. In recent years there is a growth in the number of published materials. CLOSPI has extensive contacts in the scientific community, which help to reinforce its international reputation for excellence in research.
