Profile:

The Laboratory of Molecular and Macromolecular Photochemistry (LPMM) is a joint research unit CNRS-Université Blaise Pascal (UMR 6505). It is a component of the federal structure of chemistry (FR2404).

Since its inception in 1970, the laboratory has focused its activities to the study of the degrading effects of light on two targets selected for their importance: the polymeric materials and chemical pollutants. The laboratory has been a pioneer in the field of photoaging of polymeric materials and in the photochemistry related to the environment. Our research aims to characterize on the kinetic and mechanistic analysis of the different reactions involved in the photochemical transformations of macromolecular compounds and organic micropollutants. They are the basis of a forecast on the future of these substrates and actual conditions on the development of techniques for photoprotection or disposal. This work find applications in environment (fate of pollutants, pollution) and in areas of use of polymeric materials (photovoltaic, solar thermal, coatings, materials for optics, materials Biosource).

The work of the laboratory led to the establishment of CNEP in 1985 (National Center for Evaluation and Photoprotection), a subsidiary of the University Blaise Pascal. Associated with LPMM the CNEP enhances the results of basic research on the aging of organic materials.

The LPMM is divided into two teams: Photochemistry and Environment and Macromolecular Photochemistry. His average is 45 people (25 permanent).
