Profile: | INM in Saarbruecken, Germany, is a public non profit research institute dedicated to the development of materials on the basis of chemical nanotechnology. Founded in 1987, INM today is among the leading R&D institutions for the processing and application of materials and nanoparticles for functional coatings and bulk materials, with about 180 scientists, engineers and non-technical employees and a total lab area of 12,500sqm. INM, as a member of the Leibniz Association, receives allocated funds by the Federal Republic of Germany and the State of Saarland and acquires third party funds which represent about 25% of INM’s total budget (~ 15 Mio. euro in 2007). Scientific directors are Prof. Eduard Arzt (chairman) and Prof. Michael Veith. INM’s major expertise is in the synthesis and processing of organic, inorganic and hybrid materials and composites as well as in oxide nanoparticles including their surface modification. Accordingly, a wide spectrum of state-of-the-art techniques for the synthesis and the characterisation of nanomaterials and thin films are available. As a link to industrial application, INM has facilities from lab-scale to pilot-scale completed by an application centre for materials synthesis and coating (NMO). |
